Agnes Bethke

Agnes Bethke was born in 1871 (May 27, 1870) and passed away September 27, 1943. Her maiden name was Hoehr, Hehr, or Hohr. Her father was Carl Hoher and her mother was Ernestine Hoher. Her birth record was published in Osie U Swiecie.

She was the wife of Robert Bethke, and was Hilda’s grandmother on her father, Henry’s side.

Agnes Bethke immigrated from Prussia at the age of 21 on August 16, 1890. The vessel was the Karlsruhe, departing from the port of Bremen, Germany, and arriving in the port of New York. Hugo (a nickname for Henry Bethke, we think), age 2, and Elise, age 11 months are on the manifest.

On the last page of the ship’s registry is the Recapitulation, which shows a total of 877 passengers, and one birth and one death. On the cabin level were 22 adults and 2 children; in the steerage level were 613 adults, 194 children and 46 infants.
