John Zink

John Joachim Zink came from Kairlindach, Bavaria along with his sister Elizabeth and brothers George, Conrad, Matthias and two nephews, John Henry and George Zink.

John and Barbara had at least 4 children Mary Blume, John Paul, Elizabeth Engelking/Lloyd. and Charles.

Census Records

The 1850 Census records show John (last name spelled incorrectly as ‘Stink’), age 31 and Barbara, age 28.

The 1860 Census records show John as being 40, a day laborer, and Barbet (Barbara) was 37.

Children:

  • Elizabeth, 10
  • Mary, 7
  • John, 5
  • Charles, 3.

The 1870 Census records show John as being 36, Barbara as 43, Charles is 14, Anne is 10, Mary is 8, Barbara is 5, and Kate is 2. John’s occupation is a ‘Keeper of a retail grocery and liquor store’. Barbara’s occupation is ‘Keeping house’ and oldest son Charles’ occupation is ‘clerk in store’.

There is a US Civil War Draft Registration dated July 1863 listing John Zink, age 44, laborer, from Germany.

John Joachim Zink is the full name on his Baptism record. He was born in Kairlindach, Bavaria on December 13, 1819 to Leonhard and Ursula (Foerster) Zink. John and his wife Barbara lived in Baltimore and had 4 children: Elizabeth, Mary, John P, and Charles A. John Zink worked as a day laborer and porter.

John died at the home of Conrad Thomas. Conrad is married to Elizabeth (ZINK) who is John’s sister. NOTE: Elizabeth died July 11, 1882 and there is Find A Grave Memorial #59104920. John had other siblings that came to Baltimore. They are George, Conrad, Matthias and two half-brothers. John Henry and George Zink.

John was born December 13, 1819 in Landkreis Erlangen-Hochstädt, Bavaria (Bayern), Germany.

There is a possible 1863 Passenger List from the bremen ship Albert bound for Baltimore that lists Johann Fink (Zink), age 24, from Kairlindach. Kairlindach is near Nuremburg.
John passed away on June 17, 1876, at the age of 56 in Baltimore City,.
He was buried at Saint Matthews Cemetery in Baltimore City, Lot No. 219.

The following information is from a letter dated 12/10/2008 and written by Richard Zink.

John Zink was born in 1833, in Baden, Germany. He was the husband of Annie, who was born in Baden also. John had a second wife, Barbara, who was also born in Baden. Both women were born in 1827.

John Zink and Annie are the parents of John Paul (1854-1923), Charles (11/27/1856), Anne, and Mary Bloom (1862-?). Barbara, John’s second wife, was the mother of Barbara and Kate.
