Elizabeth ‘Aunt Lizzie’ W. Bethke was born in December 1889 in Germany to Robert and Agnes Bethke. She was about one year old when she immigrated from Germany to America with her mother. She married Albert William Miller.
In the 1910 Census, they are living on Bouldin Street and have one child, Agnes A., 2 months old. Since she doesn’t appear in subsequent censuses, it could be assumed that she may have died. There is a Find A Grave Memorial for her: “Agnes Augusta Therese Miller” passed away at age 1 on May 6, 1911. Albert works as an order clerk at a dry goods house.
In the 1920 Census, they are living on Fifth Street and have three children and one boarder. The children are:
- Albert William, Jr, age 8
- Margaret, age 3
- Norman, age 4 months
Elizabeth’s brother, Frederick, age 24, is a machinist at Bethlehem Steel.
In the 1930 Census, the three children are now 18, 13, and 10. They live on Dunbar Road, and Albert works as a machinist for the railroad. Albert Jr. is a floor boy at a department store.
In the 1940 Census, she is listed as being 50 years old, married to Albert William Miller, age 55, and living on Dunbar Road in Dundalk, Maryland.
They had two sons, Albert W. Jr., age 28 and Norman, age 20.
Albert was listed as being born in Maryland and worked as a machinist for the Pennsylvania Railroad.
The two sons were listed as boat builders for the Boat Construction Company (Owens Yacht Co, Dundalk).
By the 1950 Census, only Elizabeth and Albert were listed as residing in the household, now on Liberty Boulevard.
Elizabeth and Albert are buried at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Eastpoint, Baltimore County.
