Ray Jr. petting a black rabbit in the lane between the homeplace and Lena's trailer. Note the woodpile in the background - as kids, we were told never to play on the woodpile, due to the creatures that might be in there, such as snakes, gophers, and raccoons. Also note the water pump.
At the market. From the left: Henry Bethke, son Howard Bethke, Daisy, and Nancy Knauff. This could be the farm stand that Henry had at the Saturday Canton, Baltimore City, market. Living room at the homeplace. I remember the shiny black painted door and I wondered where the door led to. I remember the red brick print crepe paper on the fireplace. Note the picture on the wall above the lamp is the photo of Lena's grandparents, Gerd and Anna Klover, on their family farm in Germany. That photo can be found on Gerd Klover's page on this website.
Henry and Lena Bethke's living room. Note the white doily on the sofa back. There were usually doilies on all tables, mantels, and sofa arms.
